MISSION

Song Rise Arts mission is to provide trauma-informed spaces for underserved communities to find healing, empowerment, opportunity and community through songwriting and performance.

We nurture essential social and emotional skills and build resiliency by creating safe spaces for our students to tell their story. Through our programs for women veterans and transition age youth (14-26) from underserved communities, we offer songwriting classes, mentorship, one-on-one lessons, access to industry professionals, recording experience, performance opportunities and barrier-eliminating support such as stipends and transportation to foster equity, improve well-being and lift outcomes for all.

Bereavement counselor Erin Koeske says, “I saw my client engage and express herself in ways that I hadn't seen in months of individual counseling. I believe these sessions are life-changing for her, and there is such therapeutic value in the work of Song Rise Arts.”

Our mission and programs are inspired by research studies that have shown the significant impact of creative therapies on the emotional, social, and physical well-being of participants. Our objective is to create a safe and vibrant space for our students to explore their story and participate in healing creative work.

Feedback from anonymous student surveys illustrates how this is working:

“Songwriting has become the solution that regular therapy hasn't been in a long time. I can be confident in how I handle conflicts with other people and within my doubts. Conflict resolution is what I take away from this program.”

“Songwriting has helped me learn to have those hard conversations with myself. Being able to be honest and vulnerable takes time and this was a safe space to cultivate that skill. I’m leaving this program healthier and more mindful and feel motivated to cope in a creative way.”
